This year, we are celebrating our democracy day with a panel discussion. Please see below.
His Holiness's Representative Mrs. Kesang Takla of The Office of Tibet will briefly address our members of the Tibetan Community on this important day. In the second part of this event, Kunsang Chodon-la, our Sponsorship Secretary will share overview of Tibetan Community in Britain since its formation in 1970.
Topic for panel discussion:
Democracy and Its Future Prospects for Tibetan Nation
Panelists include: Mr. Sonam Frasi, Mr. Tashi Gyatso, Mr. Chonpel Tsering, Mr. Tenzin Samphel and Mr. Tseten Samdup
- Sonam Frasi,
a member of the Assembly of Tibetan People's Deputies (ATPD) and a former Chairman of the Tibetan Community in Britain, will give a holistic view of the introduction of democracy in the exile Tibetan community. He will also share his thoughts whether the introduction of democracy in exile Tibetan community is either an external pressure or a real solution to the Tibetan issue, or both.
- Tashi Gyatso, an ex-political prisoner, former Research Assistant at the Tibetan Centre for Human Rights and Democracy (TCHRD) in Kathmandu and former reporter for Radio Free Asia (Tibetan Language), shares his thoughts on the general view of the Tibetans living inside Tibet on democracy and its needs in future Tibetan society.
- Chonpel Tsering, Coordinator for International Tibet Support Group Network (ITSN), former General Secretary of the Tibetan Community in Britain and a former Research Assistant at the Tibet Information Network (TIN), shares his thoughts on how the western world views exile Tibetan community adopting democracy as a pillar for their struggle. He will also touch on the subject whether the western governments would be committed both in practical help as well as morally to resolve the issue of Tibet when the Tibetan Government-in-exile adopts full-form democratic structure in future.
- Tenzin Samphel, Registrar of the Regional Tibetan Election Commission (UK) and former Vice-President of the Tibetan Youth Congress (TYC), speaks on how the younger Tibetan generation perceives the present democratic structure in exile community will bring a lasting solution to the Tibet's political issue. He will also share how the democratisation of the Tibetan Government-in-exile strengthens the future movement of Tibet to achieve the ultimate goal of all Tibetans i.e. rangzen or the independence.
- Tseten Samdup, Chairman of the Tibetan Community in Britain and a former Secretary at the Office of Tibet (London), will chair the evening's panel discussion.
